Donna's 24+ year career & family history
Donna believes that to achieve inner & outer beauty, there needs to be a perfect synergy of how we nourish & nurture our bodies from the inside-out, and has carefully selected professional brands and practitioners that align with her vision, bringing sustainable luxury to you.
Donna is a qualified Hairdresser, Beauty Therapist, Makeup Artist, Laser/IPL Technician and Nail Technician with a Diploma in Salon Management and a Certificate IV in Training & Education working in a professional hair and beauty career spanning over 24 years. Donna "fell into" hairdressing aged 16 straight from High School, completing her school work experience at her local salon because she "didn't know what else to do" and "that's what my grandfather does - so why not?"
Running a successful salon business clearly runs in this family! Macarthur Makeovers Founder & Owner, Donna Sillett, become a qualified hairdresser thanks to her beloved Grandfather Earle Godbee who owned and operated his own hairdressing salon around 1961, which was located at 1413 Botany Road, Botany NSW. (Earle is pictured above standing behind the counter at his Botany salon in 1961.)
Donna's father, Douglas Godbee (the child pictured above next to Earle in his Botany salon), would spend his after school hours, and weekends at the salon with Earle. Donna remembers growing up watching her late Grandfather Earle cut hair from his garage in his retirement years. His handmade fold-out step stool that he used to get his clients to sit on for haircuts, which is still featured in Macarthur Makeovers salon today. Earle's remaining hairdressing tools and pictures on display, as a special reminder of her family salon history.
Back in 1996 Donna began her hairdressing apprenticeship, but it wasn't long before Donna started to suffer from eczema and dermatitis on her hands and arms from the hairdressing chemicals, and suffered asthma attacks from breathing in the toxic fumes around the salon. Knowing there had to be a better way, and after years of research and a passion for sustainability, Donna established her first eco-friendly and low-toxic hair and beauty salon Spoilt Rotten Hair & Beauty Studio aged just 23 back in 2004, along with the help of her sister Sarah, with locations across Sydney, including; Croydon, Campbelltown, Eagle Vale, and Smeaton Grange which she sold in 2008 to an employee where it remains today.
Diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis in 2013, and told several time to "give up her job and be a stay at home mum" Donna was determined to continue working in the industry, and was contracted to work as a Store Manager for Price Attack, as a Beauty Consultant at Priceline, Assistant Store Manager at Laser Clinics Australia, then moving on to becoming a Fashion Stylist working as a Retail Store Manager for fashion labels such as; Autograph, Katies, SHEIKE and Dotti during her 52kg weight loss journey. Because helping women look and feel good, so they leave loving themselves with a spring in their step is what Donna is all about!
