brands we use & recommend
At Macarthur Makeovers, we have carefully selected brands that align with our eco-holistic and sustainable ethos.
We proudly use and recommend brands that are; eco-friendly, low-tox, certified organic, vegan, ethically sourced, natural, plant-based, sustainable, and of course Australian-made (wherever possible), making our professional salon services safe for pretty much all skin types, allergies, and medical conditions. We haven't met a customer we couldn't pamper - yet!
Like any other innovative and growing business, we are always on the lookout to update our suppliers. So please let us know of any brands you would like us to stock, and Donna will look into it. Furthermore, our team of hair stylists and makeup artists obviously have a lot of brands in their travel kits, so it's impossible to list the all the brands.
meet our founder & owner
Donna believes that to achieve inner & outer beauty, there needs to be a perfect synergy of how we nourish & nurture our bodies from the inside-out, and has carefully selected professional brands and practitioners that align with her vision, bringing sustainable luxury to you.
Donna is a qualified Hairdresser, Beauty Therapist, Makeup Artist, Laser/IPL Technician and Nail Technician with a Diploma in Salon Management and a Certificate IV in Training & Education working in a professional hair and beauty career spanning over 24 years. Donna "fell into" hairdressing aged 16 straight from High School, completing her school work experience at her local salon because she "didn't know what else to do" and "that's what my grandfather does - so why not?"
It wasn't long before Donna started to suffer from eczema and dermatitis on her hands and arms from the hairdressing chemicals, and suffered asthma attacks from breathing in the toxic fumes around the salon. Knowing there had to be a better way, and after years of research, Donna established her first eco-friendly and lox-toxic hair and beauty salon with her sister Sarah, aged just 23 back in 2004, and as a result Donna has since been awarded numerous local, state, national and international business awards in that time for multiple reasons including; customer service, marketing, startup innovation, sustainability, hair and beauty excellence, inspiration, and brides choice - just to name a few.
With a clear passion for sustainability, Donna has spent the past 15 years of her 24 year career specialising in eco-friendly and sustainable hair and beauty services in her numerous multi award-winning salon Spoilt Rotten Hair & Beauty Studio across Sydney, including locations such as; Croydon, Campbelltown, Eagle Vale, and Smeaton Grange which she sold in 2008.
Remaining in the industry, Donna has also previously worked as a Business Development Manager for professional hair and beauty companies such as; Sothys-Paris Skincare, Eco-Tan, Harlotte Cosmetics, and has been a Marketing Assistant for DNA Organics. Donna has also taught Hairdressing at private RTO's including; the Carrick Institute of Education at Sydney Tower and the Unique International College in Granville.
Diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis in 2013, and told several time to "give up her job and be a stay at home mum" Donna was determined to continue working in the salon, but also found pleasure working as a Store Manager for Price Attack, then moving on to becoming a Fashion Stylist working as a Retail Store Manager for labels such as; Autograph, Katies, and SHEIKE, during her 52kg weight loss journey.
Donna was determined remain in the industry she loved so much, and push through her pain and suffering, going on to establish her newest salon business, Macarthur Makeovers launching in Camden in mid 2017, with a supportive and talented team of hair stylists and makeup artists to help her, specialising in pampering makeovers and mobile bridal hair & makeup, which has already seen her be recognised in no less than 28 award programs, and proudly winning 7 of those awards in the past 2 years, with no doubt many more to come...
Not one to ever sit still, in her spare time, Donna also operates MIBA Macarthur Networking Group in South West Sydney, hosting monthly child-friendly MIBA networking events for women in business across Camden, Campbelltown and the Wollondilly regions. Through her involvement with Mums in Business Association (MIBA), Donna has gone on to be a #1 best-selling co-author of the Mumpreneur on Fire 4 book, and is currently writing her next chapter for the upcoming Mumpreneur on Fire - Australia edition, and has worked as the Head Coordinator for Australia & New Zealand.
our family history
3rd generation hairdresser
Running a successful salon business clearly runs in this family! Managing Director Donna Sillett, become a qualified hairdresser thanks to her beloved Grandfather Earle Godbee, who owned and operated his own hairdressing salon around 1961, which was located at 1413 Botany Road, Botany NSW.
Donna's father, Douglas Godbee, would spend his after school hours, and weekends at the salon with Earle. Donna remembers growing up watching her late Grandfather Earle cut hair from his garage in his retirement years. His handmade fold-out step stool that he used to get his clients to sit on for haircuts, is still featured in Macarthur Makeovers salon decor today.
Donna also keeps Earle's remaining hairdressing tools and pictures on the display, as a special reminder of her families history. Donna has now been hairdressing for over 24yrs, and is proud to keep the tradition in the family going. Both Donna and her sister Sarah who has worked alongside Donna over the years, both have a Hairdressing Licence which fell under the same Shops and Industries Act 1962, the same as their Pop's hairdressing licence.
